2021 Ford F-150 is Starting to Reveal Itself

Almost all the attention of Ford enthusiasts this winter and spring is focused on the all-new Bronco, and understandably so, but a more important product will be the next-generation 2021 Ford F-150, which is set to make its debut later this year.

The truck is now starting to reveal itself.

Spy photographers have caught pictures of a partly camouflaged F-150 being road tested near Ford’s headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.

We can fully see the new grille (or at least one version of the new grille), which some people find similar to the Ranger’s. The headlights appear to be a bit more stacked, while the fog lights are more horizontal. Tow hooks pop through the front bumpers.

The side mirror caps have been redesigned and the taillights in the rear have a slightly different shape (not sure it’s an improvement, though). All around the vehicle we can also spot the various sensors that provide data for the driver assistance features.

Unfortunately, there are no pictures of the cabin yet, but we expect it to be radically transformed. Look for a large infotainment touchscreen possibly similar to the one in the new Explorer (the F-150’s main rival, the Ram 1500, is available with a 12-inch display). SYNC 4 will be included, as well, offering Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and SYNC AppLink compatibility, voice recognition and over-the-air updates.

As for powertrains, we’re wondering if Ford might eliminate one or more gasoline options given that an F-150 Hybrid and F-150 Electric will be added to the lineup by the end of 2021.

In addition to the Ram 1500 (our Best Buy among full-size pickups for the second year in a row), the Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra and Nissan TITAN have all been redesigned lately. Ford needs to make a big statement with the new F-150, even though it still enjoys a sizable lead in terms of North American sales.
