Ontario's New Licence Plates Become Illegible at Night

The new licence plates being issued in Ontario since February 1 have a major problem that many drivers are complaining about.

According to CTV News, the plates become totally illegible at night when hit with a direct light, for example a car’s headlights. Obviously, this is a concern for patrol officers.

Sergeant Steve Koopman from Kingston Police is among those who first reported the situation on social media.

CTV News contributor Andrew Collins also turned to Twitter to spread the word about the illegible plates. As you can see on his dashcam picture (top of page), it’s impossible to tell the letters and numbers on the plate of the vehicle in front of him.

One of his colleagues at the network, Colin D’Mello, did a few tests to verify that the problem is real.

Representatives from the Ontario government claim they are aware of the situation and currently looking into what to do about it.
