Infiniti Adds Next-Gen Infotainment, More Changes for 2020

Infiniti, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this month, is looking to write a new chapter focused on electrification. Before that, however, consumers will find a next-generation Infiniti InTouch infotainment system in select 2020 models.

The list includes the Q50 sedan and Q60 coupe (the midsize Q70 is not returning), as well as the QX50 and QX80 SUVs. The best-selling QX60 won’t get the new system for 2020 as a completely redesigned model is likely due for 2021.

“Having listened to feedback from our customers, we have vastly improved the system's features, intuitive use and functionality,” said Eric Rigaux, General Manager of Product Strategy & Planning at Infiniti.

The dual-screen Infiniti InTouch (8-inch upper and 7-inch lower HD touchscreens) now features an improved interface with the adoption of a new, faster processor. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are finally included as standard, with Siri Hands Free allowing Apple users to keep their hands on the steering wheel.

A new Bluetooth module allows for easier pairing, prioritized connection and higher stability between the user's smartphone and the vehicle, while the newly adopted HD microphone delivers better voice quality during phone calls and voice commands.

For models that feature Infiniti InTouch with Navigation, functionality expands to incorporate 3D maps, Street and satellite view imagery and Destinations by Google so it’s easier to select and identify points of interest. The vehicles also become a Wi-Fi hotspot, with up to seven devices able to connect at any one time.

Over-the-air updates to the infotainment system, including maps, are possible when connected to a home Wi-Fi network.

More Changes for 2020

Available now, the 2020 Infiniti Q50 adds a base 3.0t PURE model that uses the same 300-horsepower V6 as most other Q50s. Another trim joining the lineup is the Signature Edition ProASSIST, which offers a black-coloured spoiler, a black double-arch grille with Illuminated emblem, exterior ground lighting and safety features such as Blind Spot Warning, Backup Collision Intervention and Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection.

Next March, the Q60 coupe will receive a new IT system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. New safety and security features will be added as standard on the Sport trim: front and rear parking sensors, Around View monitor with Moving Object Detection, Blind Spot Warning and Backup Collision Intervention.

For 2020, the QX50 will have a number of safety, security and driver assistance features become standard on all trim levels, including Forward Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Rear View Monitor, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Automatic Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, High Beam Assist and rear parking sensors.

Also added to all QX50 models is a new IT system and several new or revised option packages. Wi-Fi Hotspot has been added as well on the Essential trim. And 20-inch wheel is now available on ProASSIST onwards.

As mentioned earlier, the best-selling QX60 remains relatively unchanged for the 2020 model year.

Finally, the flagship QX80 will hit the market next month with a number of enhancements. In addition to the next-gen infotainment system, look for an all-new instrument cluster with seven-inch TFT screen, a new IT system, a standard 17-speaker Bose Performance Series audio system and two new exterior colours. Also added are standard Rear Door Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Backup Collision Intervention and Blind Spot Warning.
