What’s New?
Every Prius gets Apple CarPlay as standard, plus an upgraded multimedia system with a seven-inch touchscreen. Furthermore, it is now equipped with Toyota Connected Services including Scout GPS Link.
More connectivity options, including Android Auto, should be added at a later date as is the case with select 2020 Toyota models already.
Convenient and Safe
Standard equipment on the 2020 Toyota Prius includes air conditioning with automatic temperature control, a multi-information display, an eco-drive monitor and a Smart Key system with push-button start.
There’s also the Toyota Safety Sense P bundle of driver assists, which consists of a pre-collision avoidance system that warns the driver of potential dangers, automatic high beams, a lane departure alert system and adaptive cruise control.
No Changes Under the Hood
Toyota’s latest Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain combines a 1.8-litre gasoline engine with an electric motor to generate a net output of 121 horsepower and achieve a city-highway rating of 4.4 L/100 km.
Of course, the Prius is returning with the same available on-demand all-wheel drive system (AWD-e) that was introduced for 2019. Between 0-10 km/h, a small motor automatically drives the rear wheels. After that, power is transferred as needed up to a speed of 70 km/h. Anything faster puts you in FWD mode only. The Prius AWD-e averages 4.7 L/100 km.
Five Trim Levels
The 2020 Toyota Prius starts at $28,550 (freight and delivery not included). With the Technology Package, pricing increases to $32,590. You get Safety Connect, SiriusXM satellite radio, SofTex seat cladding, an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, a heated steering wheel wrapped in synthetic leather, a wireless charging tray for compatible devices, a blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, a power sunroof and more.
If you opt for a Prius AWD-e, prepare to pay a minimum of $29,550. This model is also available with the Technology Package, bringing the price to $33,450. The difference here is that the centre display measures 11.6 inches and comes with embedded navigation. For $35,250, the Technology Advanced Package adds head-up display, auto-levelling headlamps with adaptive lighting, an intelligent clearance sonar with parking assist and a garage door opener.
Don’t Forget the 2020 Prius Prime!
Announced in June, the plug-in variant of the Prius gets some upgrades for 2020, too, and its base price remains at $32,990. The biggest news is the elimination of the rear centre console in favour of an additional seating position, meaning the car can sit five people instead of just four. What’s more, black interior accents replace the previous white accents, which is a good move in our opinion as it conveys a more premium feel.
