The popular Honda Civic Hatchback, introduced one year after the tenth-generation Civic Sedan and Coupe, has now reached the midpoint of its cycle. So, for 2020, the company has made a few changes to the five-door model.

First, the exterior design is updated with the addition of a body-coloured crossbar in the fog light housings, a slight tweak of the wing-style front grille and a blacked-out treatment for the main headlights. The openings in the rear bumper also feature a new body-coloured crossbar.

All trim levels come with new wheel designs and the top-line Sport Touring (pictured here) gets improved LED headlights that project wider and longer light beams.

The interior of the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback boasts new dash trim to differentiate the various trim levels, with Sport trims receiving a new geometrical pattern and Sport Touring an exclusive brushed black treatment. Additional sound insulation in the floor, trunk and front and rear fenders promises to make the drive quieter and even more pleasant.

The updated seven-inch touchscreen Display Audio system, which includes physical buttons and a volume knob, not to mention Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, is part of the package, too.

On the road, all 2020 Honda Civic Hatchbacks (except for the high-performance Type R) benefit from the Honda Sensing suite of advanced driver assists to enhance safety and help avoid collisions.

There are no changes to the 1.5-litre turbo engine, which continues to generate 174 horsepower in the base Civic Hatchback LX and 180 horsepower in the two Sport models. Once again, all of them offer a standard six-speed manual transmission and an available CVT.

Prices should be announced closer to the car’s arrival at Canadian dealerships this fall. Expect a minor increase from the outgoing model.
