Chevrolet Trailblazer Coming to Canada for 2021

General Motors has just announced that the all-new Chevrolet Trailblazer, unveiled last month at Auto Shanghai, will go on sale in Canada early next year as a 2021 model.

This comes just hours after the automaker confirmed the arrival of the equally new 2020 Buick Encore GX in North America.

The Trailblazer used to be sold here as a midsize SUV with off-roading skills (up until 2009), but since Chevrolet now has the Blazer and Traverse in that segment, the brand decided to resurrect the name for a small SUV, a type of vehicle that consumers are crazy about these days.

And so, the Trailblazer will join the Trax (slotting right above it instead of serving as a replacement like previous reports suggested) as well as the Equinox, Blazer, Traverse, Tahoe and Suburban to give Chevrolet a total of seven SUVs and crossovers—the largest utility lineup in the industry.

“The Trailblazer is a continuation of the design language for Chevy’s crossover family and extends our momentum into one of the industry’s fastest-growing segments,” said Laura Pacey, brand director at Chevrolet.

Exterior styling is obviously inspired by the Blazer, but since buyers in this segment typically like unique, colourful designs, the new Chevrolet Trailblazer will include an RS trim with a standard two-tone roof.

And similar to the Encore GX, which is also built on GM’s new Vehicle Strategy Set - Front (VSS-F) platform, the Trailblazer will offer numerous active safety features as standard equipment including Front Pedestrian Braking, Automatic Emergency Braking and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. Adaptive Cruise Control - Camera, Rear Park Assist and a High Definition Rear Vision Camera will be optional.

“These features deliver added confidence and peace of mind behind the wheel, helping drivers monitor the vehicle’s surroundings and the driving environment with an available combination of camera, short-range radars and ultrasonic sensors,” said Pacey.

There is still no official information about the powertrain, however. GM will share full product specifications and pricing at a later date.
