Volkswagen Will Present a Fully Electric Dune Buggy in Geneva

In the 60s and 70s, numerous dune buggies appeared in America—especially in California—based on the Volkswagen Beetle’s architecture. These doorless and topless cars were fitted with big wheels to leisurely stroll down beaches or have a little fun in the area’s sand dunes.

As a tribute to these dune buggies, Volkswagen decided to create an e-buggy concept that will be presented at the upcoming Geneva Auto Show in March. This concept vehicle, whose name hasn’t yet been announced, is based on the company’s MEB platform, developed specifically for its next generation of fully electric vehicles, including the I.D. CROZZ and I.D. BUZZ.

Volkswagen points out that just like the Beetle’s platform, MEB is flexible enough to be used for various types of vehicles, including low-volume ones like this e-buggy—if the company decides to produce it, which would admittedly be surprising.

No technical details have been revealed so far regarding this EV dune buggy. We’ll know more about it following its unveiling in Geneva.
