Lexus Lifts the Top Off its Superb LC

At the Detroit Auto Show, which opened its doors to the media today, Lexus presented its LC Convertible concept, a topless version of the most spectacular model in its lineup.

Unlike many concept vehicles presented by automakers, this Lexus convertible seems very close to reach production. After all, it’s built on the same base as the LC coupe, a model that’s available in Lexus dealerships since 2017.

Under the hood, the concept would offer the same powertrains as the hardtop production model. That means a naturally aspirated, 5.0-litre V8 and a hybrid system combining a 3.5-litre V6 with two electric motors.

The convertible variant presented in Detroit is fitted with immense 22-inch wheels and a white paint job that contrasts nicely with the black leather-trimmed cockpit.

For Tadao Mori, Chief Designer of the LC Convertible concept, an eventual production version of the car is indeed a possibility. “A production version of this concept would be exhilarating in many ways,” said Mori, adding that “it blends all the best aspects of the original coupe with the dynamic design of an open-air convertible.”
