Hyundai Unveils the Elantra GT N Line at the Detroit Auto Show
After launching the new 2019 Hyundai Veloster N, the Korean brand’s first high-performance N model in North America, a sportier version of the Elantra GT is arriving for 2019 to better rival the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Honda Civic Si.
As a matter of fact, at the Detroit Auto Show, the 2019 Elantra GT N Line was presented, which relies on design elements that enhance the sporty character of the car, along with suspension and steering modifications. N Line versions, which should eventually be offered on more of the company’s products, are inspired by veritable N models, a little like BMW M and M Performance or Audi Sport and S-Line.
The Elantra GT N Line gets an N-specific front grille with a cascade pattern, reworked bumpers, black mirror caps and N Line 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, we find a perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel with metallic spokes, sport seats, a ball-shaped shift knob wrapped in leather and metallic trim as well as a sportier finish of the dashboard and door panels.
The suspension was firmed up for sportier handling characteristics, as were the engine, gearbox and antiroll bar supports. The power steering was recalibrated for improved quickness and the front brakes benefit from larger discs.
As for the engine, the turbocharged 1.6-litre four remains pegged at 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, but can be replaced by an optional dual-clutch, seven-speed automatic.
The 2019 Hyundai Elantra GT N Line is now available and replaces the Sport trim level in the model lineup. The price breakdown for the Elantra GT in Canada is as follows:
