Nearly 500,000 Ford F-Series Trucks Recalled in Canada for a Block Heater Problem

The Ford F-150 and Super Duty pickups have been the country’s best-selling vehicle for decades now. However, when a recall is announced, it usually involves a large number of units on the road. This time around, Transport Canada issued a notice about a block heater problem that affects 463,760 units of the F-Series.

On vehicles equipped with an engine block heater, water and corrosion could damage the unit’s splice connector. That could cause a short-circuit, resulting in melted wiring and possibly greater damage or a fire. It could also trip household breakers when plugged in.

To fix the problem, dealers will inspect the block heater cable and replace it if necessary.

In the meantime, Ford advises not to use the block heater until it has been inspected. Vehicles affected include the 2015 to 2019 Ford F-150 as well as the 2017 to 2019 Ford Super Duty. Owners of these trucks can check out the recall check section on Ford of Canada’s website or call 1-800-565-3673.
