Here is Infiniti's Electric SUV: the QX Inspiration

A few weeks ago, we said that Infiniti would unveil an all-electric SUV at the Detroit auto show this month. It turns out we have just received a bit more information about the thing.

The concept is called the QX Inspiration and, as is the case with all recent Infiniti vehicles, it has been designed by none other than Montrealer Karim Habib.

Still No Details

Infiniti is remaining tight-lipped about its new battery-powered utility vehicle; however, the carmaker claims it’ll be a very high-performance machine which will offer its owner “complete range confidence.”

We can therefore expect the QX’s batteries to provide quite a fair amount of range. Infiniti also speaks of a spacious and premium “lounge” type cabin, incorporating high-quality materials that were put together by hand, all inspired by “Japanese sensuality.” Habib apparently took inspiration from the “omotenashi” Japanese hospitality principle for the car’s overall cabin design. But to us, it all sounds like marketing mumbo jumbo.

What we really want to know is how much power we should expect from the mystery SUV, how much it will sell for and when we should expect it to hit showrooms. Of course, we still don’t know any of that, but the QX Inspiration should be a direct rival to all-electric utility vehicles such as the Tesla Model X, the Mercedes-Benz EQC, the Audi e-tron quattro and the Jaguar I-PACE. As we’re writing this, the Tesla’s Model X offers up to 475 km of range, while the Jaguar I-PACE can travel up to 386 km on a single charge.
