Recall for the Subaru BRZ, Impreza and XV Crosstrek as well as the Scion FR-S

Transport Canada has just published a recall notice for an engine problem in several Subaru models as well as the Scion FR-S, which shares its mechanical components with the Subaru BRZ.

The valve springs in the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine could break, obviously causing its failure or a stall with an inability to restart. To fix this potential problem, dealerships will replace the engine valve springs.

The recall also indicates that drivers may notice abnormal noises or vibration prior to the engine failure.

This notice concerns the 2013 Subaru BRZ, the 2012-2014 Subaru Impreza, the 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek as well as the 2013 Scion FR-S. A total of 22,215 units are affected, including 19,164 Subarus and 3051 Scions.

Owners of these Subaru vehicles can check if they are concerned by this recall by visiting Subaru’s website, or by contacting them by phone at 1-800-894-4212.

As for Scion FR-S owners, they can contact Toyota by phone at 1-888-869-6828.
