The Vibe Ends

When Pontiac was killed off, the automotive press was rife with reports as to which of the dead brand’s models would continue, and which would suffer the executioner’s axe. As one of the most popular and best-liked models in the lineup, the general consensus was that the Vibe would continue unhindered.

But apparently, General Motors has other plans! Produced in the California-based New United Motor Manufacturing Incorporated facility (a plant shared with Toyota’s Matrix production line), a statement released by GM president Troy Clarke confesses plans to shut down the Vibe production in August of 2009. Interestingly, while the same statement clearly states that there is no planned replacement for the Vibe, “GM and Toyota remain in active discussions regarding potential future production at NUMMI.”
