Bugatti Chiron Sport Presented in Geneva

A new Sport version of the mighty Bugatti Chiron has just been unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show, and it’s even more alluring than the original.

Let’s get to the important details and point out that output is unchanged. The quad turbocharged, 8.0-litre W16 engine still develops 1500 horsepower as well as 1180 pound-feet of torque that peaks from 2000 to 6000 rpm. Thanks to a seven-speed, dual-clutch gearbox and all-wheel drive, the Chiron can scoot from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds, 0 to 200 in 6.1 seconds, 0 to 300 in 13.1 seconds and 0 to 400 in 32.6 seconds. It can also reach a governed top speed of 420 km/h. Not that it’s important, but it guzzles down 35.2 L/100 km in city driving, according to the optimistic European test cycle.

The Bugatti Chiron Sport benefits from enhanced handling characteristics, due to the addition of a Dynamic package that includes a stiffer suspension as well as a torque vectoring function, while steering has been recalibrated as well. The car is also lighter by 40 pounds (18 kilograms) which, to be honest, probably doesn’t make a difference given the Chiron’s dry weight of 4359 lbs. (1977 kg). The Sport variant can blast around the 12.5-kilometre long Nardo circuit in Italy five seconds quicker than the “regular” Chiron.

“We have developed the Chiron Sport for customers wanting an even sportier driving experience with their Chiron, with improved lateral dynamics on winding roads,” stated Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S., in a press release.

There are some small cosmetic changes, and only the keen eye will be able to distinguish a Chiron Sport. It gets a new wheel design and a four-pipe exhaust deflector. In addition, the Sport can flaunt the fact that it’s the first production car in the world equipped with carbon fibre windshield wipers.

Obviously, to get those superb wipers, buyers have to pony up a bigger lump of cash. The Bugatti Chiron Sport is priced at €2.65 million, or USD$3.26 million, but happily, that includes freight, customs duties, taxes and other fees. That’s a quarter-million U.S. bucks more than a regular Chiron. The car on the Geneva show floor includes an optional colour and trim package, which jacks the price up to USD$3.672 million. No sweat.

Deliveries of the Bugatti Chiron Sport should begin before the end of the year.
