2019 Bentley Bentayga Hybrid Revealed

The luxury brand from Gaydon has just released details on the Bentayga plug-in hybrid, which was swirling around in the rumour mill for quite some time.

It will be equipped with a turbocharged, 3.0-litre V6 engine with an electric motor, the latter also acting as a generator to send energy back into the SUV’s battery pack during braking and deceleration. Output has yet to be announced, but a similar powertrain found in the Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid—Bentley and Porsche are both part of the Volkswagen Group—boasts a combined 462 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.

All-wheel drive will be standard, as will be three E Modes, including EV Drive, Hybrid Mode and Hold Mode. The driver instrument panel will add an EV Drive dial instead of the traditional tachometer, while the coolant temperature gauge will be swapped for a battery level indicator. A smartphone app will allow the 2019 Bentley Bentayga Hybrid owner to charge the battery pack remotely, manage heating and cooling as well as receive vehicle status reports. The Bentayga PHEV’s fully electric driving range is estimated at 50 kilometres on the European cycle, and the vehicle can be fully charged in 2.5 hours using a 240-volt station.

The Hybrid variant will be recognisable by its copper-coloured badging as well as a copper finish on the wheel centres. The cockpit sill plates will also boast a “hybrid” inscription. For the rest, the Bentayga PHEV is pure Bentley.

Pricing for the Canadian market hasn’t yet been sorted out, but the 2019 Bentley Bentayga Hybrid will be available to order starting this summer.
