2019 Ford Edge: This is it!

It has now become normal practice for carmakers to unveil their new products before their official debut at auto shows. Ford takes advantage of this trend to present its new 2019 Edge a few days before Detroit. For the first time since its inception, the Edge will be offered in ST trim, making it the first high-performance crossover sold under the Ford nameplate.

The Evolution of a Winning Formula

The Ford Edge is selling well, and Ford understands what makes it such a hit. This is why its basic formula remains intact, with a design that, while presenting cleaner, more masculine lines than its predecessor, stays true to its sporty and compact look.

Under the hood sits the same EcoBoost 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo than before, but it pumps out five more horsepower for a total of 250. Torque remains unchanged at 275 lb.-ft. A new eight-speed automatic gearbox takes care of putting the power down.

Of course, the 2019 Edge will be fitted with all the latest connectivity and driver assistance technology. A wireless charging pad, a Wi-Fi hotspot capable of connecting up to 10 devices at once, as well as the latest version of Ford SYNC, now compatible with Ford+Alexa, will make their way in the crossover. Semi-autonomous safety technology such as collision mitigation with automatic braking, evasive steering assist and “Stop-and-Go” adaptive cruise control, ideal for traffic situations, will either come as standard or optional equipment.

Ford Edge ST: The First High-Performance Ford Crossover

But the biggest news is the introduction of the Ford Edge ST, the first crossover to be tuned by Ford’s high-performance Sport Technologies team. On top of presenting a more aggressive demeanor by a reworked front fascia, a lowered suspension and blacked-out wheels, the Edge ST gets Ford’s 2.7-litre, twin-turbo EcoBoost V6. Power is rated at 335 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft. of torque. All Edge STs will come with all-wheel drive and the same eight-speed automatic as regular versions.

As with the rest of the high-performance Ford vehicles, consumers will be able to opt for a performance package which will include upgraded brakes and suspension. The 2019 Ford Edge will be built in Oakville, Ontario and should hit showrooms this summer.
