New Design and Technologies for the 2019 Lincoln MKC

Introduced for the 2015 model year, the MKC compact luxury SUV has sold well in Canada so far. The brand’s first entry in this market segment, it brought new customers to Lincoln showrooms. However, to keep its popularity in the upswing, it was time for a refresh.

Visually, the 2019 Lincoln MKC won’t change much. The SUV’s front end now bears a stronger resemblance to the brand’s other products such as the Lincoln Continental and the Lincoln MKZ. Otherwise, only minor details, like additional chrome trim on the liftgate, differentiates the 2019 edition from the 2018.

The MKC’s cockpit boasts new furnishings and colours, including a dark green hue that the brand calls Rialto Green. Black ash wood trim is available as well. The company’s SYNC 3 infotainment system will once again equip the SUV as standard equipment, which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The Lincoln Way application can be installed on mobile devices, and allows owners to remotely start or lock and unlock the MKC.

As before, the base engine will be a turbocharged, 2.0-litre four cylinder that develops 245 horsepower, while the uplevel trim can be equipped with a turbo 2.3-litre engine that produces 285 hp. Both are managed by a six-speed automatic transmission, and in Canada, all-wheel drive is standard. With the bigger engine, the MKC boasts a maximum towing capacity of 3000 lbs. (1361 kilograms).

As for advanced safety driving aids, the 2019 Lincoln MKC will obviously still be available with features such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic assist, lane keep assist and active park assist. However, the new pre-collision assist system includes pedestrian detection.

The 2019 MKC will be on sale in Lincoln dealerships in the summer of 2018.
