All-new 2017 McLaren 570GT perfect for weekends away

McLaren has revealed the all-new 570GT ahead of its Geneva auto show debut, the latest in the automaker's Sports Series line of "attainable" super cars.

Dubbed "the most luxurious and refined" of any McLaren to date, McLaren hopes to market the 570GT as "the most practical model ever launched" thanks to its rear luggage compartment.

The leather-lined "touring deck," as McLaren calls it, offers 220 litres of storage space to go along with 150 litres of space in the front, giving the car 370 litres of cargo room.

Although spread across two areas, that is 70 litres more than the cargo capacity of the 2016 Chevrolet Volt.

Just because the 570GT is "targeted towards longer journeys and weekends away" doesn't mean its not a pure performance machine.

Like its Sports Series stable mates, the 570S and 540C, the 570GT's carbon fibre chassis weighs just 165 lbs.

With a twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 crammed behind the seats that makes 562 horsepower and 443 lb.-ft. of torque, the 570GT runs from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and is capable of finishing the quarter-mile dash in 11.1 seconds, according to McLaren.

Outside, the car features a tinted panoramic glass roof and a side-opening rear glass hatch, and a unique aerodynamic package, including an extended fixed rear spoiler that is 10 millimetres taller than the one fitted to the 570S and 540C, while the interior gets "extended" leather upholstery, electrically adjustable heated seats, an electric steering column with easy entry/exit function, and an eight-speaker audio system.

A 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins is available as an option, while front and rear parking sensors and a quieter exhaust system than the one fitted to the 570S are also standard to help the 570GT live up to its claim as "the most refined and road-biased McLaren yet."

McLaren is set to begin deliveries in late 2016, with a starting price of £154,000 in the United Kingdom—equivalent to more than $294,000 in Canada.
