FCA plans to boost 2016 model year SRT Hellcat production

FCA is compensating for unanticipated demand for its SRT Hellcat models by increasing production of 2016 model year cars and offering discounts to customers whose 2015 orders go unfulfilled.

In a so-called "plan of attack" announced by the automaker this week, FCA said it plans to "significantly increase production" of 2016 Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcats at its Brampton, Ont., assembly plant, though it did not provide a target number.

It was also revealed that, while the remaining 2015 SRT Hellcat scheduled orders will be built, all unscheduled orders will be cancelled.

Customers whose orders are cancelled will receive discounted pricing on 2016 model year cars.

Automotive News reports the number of cancelled orders sits at "around 900."

Dodge brand boss Tim Kuniskis said the additional 2016 production is "a lot more" than 2015 but wouldn't provide specifics, according to Automotive News.

It went on to say that roughly 4,000 SRT Hellcat models were built at the Brampton plant in the first half of 2015.
