2017 Lamborghini Urus To Get A Twin-Turbo V8

Lamborghini is about to go through some very important changes. The Sant’Agata automaker is ready to launch its first modern-day SUV called the Urus – remember, the company once sold the LM002, a military vehicle powered by a Countach-derived V12 engine. If we’re to believe the most recent rumours, the powertrain under the hood of this new 4x4 could be another first for Lamborghini.

The engine in the upcoming Urus won’t be a V10 or a V12 that are currently installed in the Huracàn and Aventador, but a twin-turbo V8 with a displacement of 4.0 litres. This information is said to have been confirmed by President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann as well as R&D director Maurizio Reggiani.

Not only would this V8 be more fuel-efficient than Lamborghini’s current engines, but it would be greener too – a crucial argument for the European market. Thanks to the latest technologies, turbocharged engines are generally more powerful than ever before, an important criterion in an SUV. Lamborghini is also stating that the Urus will have good off-road capabilities.

However, what’s clear is that this new engine will be exclusive to Lamborghini, and won’t be shared with Audi or even Porsche. To maintain the brand’s aura, in no way the Italian heart of this upcoming beast would find its way under the hood of a “plebeian” A8…

The Urus is still under development, and we can expect it to be unveiled at the end of 2017, or early in 2018.
