Double Recall For Ford
Bad news for Ford: the Dearborn manufacturer has to recall nearly 500,000 vehicles in North America for an electric power steering problem, and they also announced another recall, this one targeting around 20,000 Ecoboost Mustangs.
The first mechanical problem is with the electric power steering; it can fail and come back intermittently, which could cause an accident if it were to cut out during a turn.
Here is the list of affected vehicles:
- 2011–2012 Ford Fusion
- 2011–2013 Ford Taurus
- 2011–2013 Ford Flex
- 2011–2013 Lincoln MKS
- 2011–2013 Lincoln MKT
- 2011–2012 Lincoln MKZ
- 2011 Mercury Milan
To repair these vehicles, Ford’s mechanics will apply an update to the power steering’s control module; if that doesn’t solve the problem, the entire system will be replaced.
The other recall is smaller, but more specific. On 2015 Mustangs equipped with the Ecoboost engine, temperatures underneath the car can climb higher than what Ford expected; this could degrade the fuel tank, fuel lines and the handbrake cable. There have been no recorded failures yet, but Ford will nonetheless install additional thermal protection under the car to make sure nothing breaks.
